Pioneer Electric Cooperative, Inc. awards Southside High Student $1,000 ScholarshipGreenville, AL, May 14, 2010 Julius A. Brown, II of Southside High School in Selma, is the recipient of the $1,000 Scholarship. Julius will be attending The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and majoring in Electrical Engineering. He is the son of Annette Peagler and Darrell Brown of Minter, AL. Pioneer Board Member, Melvin Dale presented Julius with the award during the “Senior’s Awards Assembly” at the high school on Wednesday, May 12th. Julius has also been awarded numerous other honors and scholarships totaling $100,000 and is President of his senior class. He is also holding the position as the current valedictorian for the Class of 2010 at Southside High. The Electric Cooperative Foundation was created by cooperatives throughout Alabama to help students continue their education at post-secondary and vocational schools. As a result of the creation of this foundation, Pioneer Electric Cooperative is able to award one $1,000 scholarship each year. Any graduating high school senior who is the dependent child of a Pioneer Electric Cooperative member-owner is eligible to apply. Pioneer Electric Cooperative, Inc. services more than 13,000 members across 4 counties: Butler, Lowndes, Dallas and Wilcox and the service area extends into five other counties which include parts of Autauga, Crenshaw, Covington, Conecuh and Monroe counties.
