Pioneer Electric Retirees
Pioneer Electric Cooperative said bittersweet goodbyes last week to two longtime employees, Larry Cowles and Joe Watts. The two retired after a combined total of almost 43 years of dedicated service to the cooperative.
Watts retired as Chief Financial Officer with a total of 12.5 years of service at the cooperative, while Cowles retired as a Line Clearance Tree Trimmer after serving a remarkable 30 years. Retirement luncheons were held for both to celebrate their time at Pioneer. Executive Vice President and General Manger Terry Moseley recognized both employees at individual retirement luncheons and it was evident that the two will be greatly missed within the Pioneer family.
“It’s important to enjoy the people that you work with and I can honestly say that these people have become like family to me,” Cowles said. “I just enjoy serving others and my time at Pioneer has allowed me to do that and to work with people that I love. I am really going to miss everyone.”
Both retirement luncheons were bittersweet experiences filled with “remember when” stories about each employee’s time at the cooperative. Agreements were also made among the Pioneer family that each retirement was not goodbye, but rather a “see you later.”
Watts thanked fellow employees for their assistance and friendship during his time at Pioneer and commended the linemen and outside employees for their work and performance under difficult times and conditions stating, “Your work efforts on behalf of the member are exemplary.” Watts also added that he would miss each and every one of his fellow employees.
