PEC Participates in Statewide Linemen Appreciation Day Event

Pioneer Electric Cooperative acknowledged June 6, 2016 as Alabama Lineman Appreciation Day by providing linemen with breakfast before joining representatives from Alabama’s 22 electric cooperatives, Alabama Power Company and the state’s municipally owned electric utilities at the Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama yesterday morning.

Congress has previously designated April 18 as National Lineman Appreciation Day in 2014, during the last session of the Alabama Legislature, both houses designated the first Monday in June as Alabama Lineman Appreciation Day. The joint resolution, HJR 244, was sponsored by Rep. April Weaver of Alabaster, who took a special interest in the legislation because her grandfather was a lineman.

"Our linemen exemplify the dedication and heart for service that all citizens should strive to accomplish in their daily lives and careers," said PEC Communications Specialist Casey Rogers. "Our linemen often put their lives in harm’s way and take time away from their own families to ensure that our members’ power needs are met," Rogers also said. "We are very proud of the linemen in our Pioneer family and others across the state." Participating in Alabama Lineman Appreciation Day from PEC were Linemen Kevin Brogden and Keith Crittenden.

Speakers included Alabama Rural Electric Association (AREA) President Fred Braswell, Representative April Weaver, State Emergency Management Agency Director Art Faulkner, AREA Senior Manager of Safety and Loss Control Michael Kelley among various others.
